Travel Insurance Query

Hi All,

I require basic cover for a three week holiday in South Africa. Flights and stay cost around £2500 and my poscessions cover would be under £500. I have just received a quote from Axa for £24, does this sound right? I have never had Travel insurance before, hence this question.

You checked insure and go, compare the market ?
  • That sounds very cheap to me. I hope you've read the policy carefully and know exactly what it does and doesn't cover, at what levels and with what excesses. You need to make sure it's got good medical and repatriation cover. Do you need it to cover for independent travel, consequential loss etc? Have you declared all pre existing conditions, if applicable? Insurance is very personal and cover is more important than price.

Is that just to cover you while you're away or does it include cancellation? Obviously insurance while travelling is essential but I'd want the £2500 outlay covered too. Have you booked yet?

    Cancellation is covered.

That's good. Now check the details to make sure you have all the medical cover you need as previous poster suggested.

Check your home contents policy, money and possessions might be covered there.

If you're happy with everything then £24 is excellent, scarily cheap.

There's actually an article on the main board about travel insurance.
Might be worth taking the time to read that.
