Neighbour Claiming and Using the Same Flat Address

The local council have advised that although people use a's and b's for our upstairs flats, they actually use left and right so there is no consistency between council records and what's on people title deeds.
What is shown on your council tax bill?I was hoping I could find a copy of the neighbours Title Deeds to see what flat number they actually bought but again not even sure where to start with it.
Have you tried the Land Registry?
You say that your neighbours ( presumably owners?) are "lovely people" - why are they and the owner of your flat not coming to an amicable agreement?0 -

I've searched the land registry and the flat address is coming up for '10b' but not for '10a' which would be the other address which seems odd.
I'll buy a copy and see what it says.0 -
Okay so I've purchased a copy of the Title Plan and Title Sheet. Together they confirm that my landlord is indeed the owner of the flat number provided to us and gives the boundary of our flat and garden.
I guess if this information is presented to our neighbours and still nothing is done, what then? Are they acting illegally? Does my letting agent or landlord have any legal right to force a change?0 -
It does sound like it's your number the neighbours are claiming from what you say.
This would be one of the very few instances where I wonder whether it's a good idea to have a name for the property. Perhaps you could decide yours was now to be called "Dunroamin" or whatever other name of your choice and inform everyone "It's not 10a or 10b - it's Dunroamin".
I think housenames are a darn nuisance normally and hate the fact all the ones in my road (including mine) have names, but no numbers. But, in this instance, it might be one way forward.0 -

This. Your neighbours should have access to their title plan and lease. Ask to see them.0 -

The neighbours are claiming to be the same number as us and on the land registry website only one number shows up (the one we rent). The number we suspect they are does not have an entry in the land registry so isn't possible to download details of their property.
We've contacted our letting agents multiple times who are claiming to be informing the landlord but we don't have direct contact with the landlord.0 -

As xylophone asked, what is shown on your council tax bill? There shouldn't be two demands going to the exact same address & if the neighbours do have your address on their bill, then I'd be inclined to tell the council that it is they that have responsibilty for the council tax & not you as you don't live at that particular address . I think if it came to their notice that you pay no council tax as it is they & not you that live at 10b they would put a bit more effort into sorting the issue out once & for all.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
As a random though what does the national database for electric meters say about the address's?
If you want to PM me the addresss's and your meter serial I could look for you. If you don't that's up to you, you could ring up but GDPR issues come with that!0
