OK quick rundown, my 2 disabled brothers lived with my mum, both on benifits and pip, my mother has just passed away for them to remain in the house me and my wife are going to move in and support for the interim, now my question is they are both due to receive about 20 grand each, 1 of my brothers has no saving but 1 has approx 18grand already in his account , anybody know the threshold? They don't claim housing or cou cil tax, any ideas and advice on what to do would be gratefully received

It will depend on the benefit they receive. The limit for savings for means tested benefits is £16k but that does not effect PIP or other non-means tested benefits0

If they are claiming any other income related benefits such as ESA/JSA or Income Support then savings should have been declared.Worried_and_concerned wrote: »but 1 has approx 18grand already in his account , anybody know the threshold?0 -
Was your mother their appointee? If so you need to look into who will take on that responsibility.0

18k already had too much money to claim anything other than PIP.0

Are you saying that one of your brothers has too much capital to be entitled to any other benefit than the non means tested PIP but the other brother receives both means tested benefits and PIP?
One brother will now have £38000 in capital and the other brother will have £20,000?0 -

One will have £38.000 I believe, not that it makes much difference it is still too much for means benefit purposes, just have this thing to correct maths. :rotfl:0 -
The important point that has already been made is the brother who already had £18,000 was already over the limit for any means tested benefits and if he has been receiving them they have been wrongly paid unless some of that £18,000 arises from a payment that falls to be disregarded (such as some specified benefits arrears payments).Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
