Can I cancel ppi check before it starts?

This may be a stupid question, but apparently I am stupid, so nothing to lose.
Offered to fill in an online ppi checker for my mum. Was my intention to use resolver but i ended up on the wrong one - likely due to chatting and being distracted. All filled in, signed and submitted. Sod's law that it was only then that I realised my error and that it was a claims company.
Checked them out and they have truly horrendous reviews. The worst one I could have accidentally clicked on.
My question is, can I phone them and cancel the request for the check to go ahead and for my mums details to be withdrawn? I had to put in my email as mum doesn't use it, and received an automatic one with a link to activate the check. Obviously I won't click it but am now worried about mum being bombarded with calls.
Would a phone call to request the check not go ahead work? Is it wishful thinking to assume they won't start pestering mum via phone?

Just don't "activate" the check. Job done.
As for spam calls, the longest they'll last will be until the end of August when the deadline for PPI complaints arrives.
In the meantime, make haste with your own PPI check, but go direct to the Bank websites not some claim firm.0 -
Thanks. I'm actually getting really worried upon reading these reviews, though. People getting charged for their services even when they haven't engaged them and receiving non stop harrasment. I'm so careful with this stuff and I've put in my mums details!0

I've put in my mums details!
EDIT
Why have you duplicated your concerns on another thread (adding extra detail in the process)?

It would surely have been wiser to keep to one thread?
If your Mother has signed a Letter Of Authority to proceed, it may be too late to stop the check going ahead. However, you should still be able to cancel their services before they do anything chargeable-that's assuming they advertise a "free" PPI check.
All this may be a storm in a teacup anyhow, as it's perfectly possible your Mother didn't even have PPI.0 -
I only added the other thread as it concerned the company involved. Apologies, but I thought it would achieve a better response. The more detail was simply what I found our or actions taken after I posted this thread. If this needs to be closed, that's fine.
No, my mum signed it, its just that she doesn't really do online stuff, so it was easier for me to fill in. I understand I may be overeacting, I've not filled in any details on the form they have emailed which is meant to be the final step. It does say a free check.
I do appreciate your help, thank you.0 -
If she has signed the contract then you have 14 days to cancel. Do it in writing, according to their t and c's. Do not just phone. Keep a copy.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Thanks. Well, firstly mum phoned them to see about cancelling. The rep said this was fine and said she had put a note on her details, sent it to admin and her details should be removed by tomorrow. Mum asked if this would be confirmed via email. Rep said unlikely as she had not finished completing all the relevant forms anyway, so assuming nothing was in motion.
The cancellation within 14 days, I think refers to if you agree to use them to make a claim. But what do you reckon? Still fill one in just in case? She is going to phone them back in a couple of days to make sure her details have actually been removed.0 -

Did your Mum actually have any PPI, though? If not, this is all a waste of time and worry.0 -
She's claimed back on ppi in the past but wanted to check about a store card and mortgage as she's not sure about these.
I was hoping by not completing and submitting the form sent in the email us phoning it would be enough, but I understand its best to do it in writing. Thing is, though, she won't receive a response as the last part of the process was not submitted. :huh0
