Drain flies driving us crazy!!!!

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone had any experience with Drain flies? We are renting a place in London and have 1 year left on our contract. We have been living with them since moving in (albeit only a couple so it hasn't been an issue), however two months ago we went away for two weeks and came back to a house COVERED in them. I mean thousands of these things.

We found lavae coming out of the kitchen sink, so we have been using all the methods taught to us (vinegar baking soda boiling water bleack etc).

We have just gotten back from a long weekend holiday and before we left we duck taped all of the sinks and holes they could have possibly came out of. However, we've come back to another house full of them :-(

They aren't even secluded to an area, we found a lot of them flying around our bathroom upstairs and hundreds of them dead on the windowsill in the lounge downstairs. None in the bedroom thank god.

We just dont know where the problem is - can anyone give any insight?

Also, this happened apparently in the summer before we moved in. They come and clean the main drain every summer and have apparently just done this.

Thanks a lot guys

If we really fond thousands of them and you're renting I would call my landlord cause perhaps there's some infestation. Do you have neighbours? Do they have the same problem?

Of course we called the LL, they got the block management to organise drain cleaning to solve the problem. Problem wasn't solved, but thanks for the reply anyway
