I paid off in full and closed down a credit card - any idea how long until it shows up as such on credit reports? I want to consolidate remaining debt but cannot as my line of credit is too high compared to salary - with this one card paid off it brings the overall limit way down (cancelled card had £5100 limit)

Ideally, you should not have closed down the account. It could be viewed by lenders that you closed the account as you are struggling with managing your lines of credit.
If you check your 'live' reports direct with the CRAs, you may find the account is already reported as closed.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

You didn't need to close the account down - just clearing the balance would have been sufficient.

Now I thought that would be the case but was advised to close it (here on MSE forums and elsewhere) to decrease my overall line of credit.0

That was because you posted on the DFW board. Most people who post there asking questions about consolidation, are struggling to manage their lines of credit. You were probably advised to close the account to reduce your level of risk, (risk of finding yourself in a deep hole of unmanageable credit).I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
