insurer refusing to repair beloved old car - only offering write-off money

Someone dented my off-side wing (will need a new wing) on my 206 while it was parked, and didn't leave a note. I called my insurer and they are only offering to take the car away and give me £850 market value for the car. eta: more seriously, my point was what an easy repair a wing on one of these is - whether you use a new one or good used!
