All around financial advisors for retail customers

Options
Hi everyone -

Can anyone recommend financial adviser/s based on his/her own experience? I am looking for something similar such as Apollo Private Wealth or similar.

I need a service that offers similar advice and offerings as high net worth services do (without being one!), ie access to good private equity shops (eg, Blackstone etc), standard tax advice, etc.

Thank you

The forum members usually do not make any personal recommendations .
As a general rule , the guidance is to look for a local IFA , recommended by word of mouth, family etc .
Normally seems best to avoid large companies/groups of advisors, or any with the word 'wealth' in their name.

Sure - how could an independent FA other than a larger firm get access to good performing private equity shops? Is there a way to screen for FAs that offer certain advice/products anywhere?

What is a private equity shop?

IFAs are whole of market and have to offer from the marketplace. Tied sales reps/restricted FAs are restricted in what they offer. Many of which only offer their own-brand or linked products. Usually at more cost as well.

What exactly are you looking for?
Do you know what you are looking for even? I am not sure you do as you appear to be wanting non-mainstream, non-retail investments.

IFAs have to consider whole of market. It is a requirement of their status. They also have to consider what is suitable within the knowledge and understanding of the individual. That I feel is more likely to be a potential blocker.

What experience do you have with private equity?
What is it about illiquid high risk investing that goes wrong as much as it comes right that appeals to you compared to conventional retail investments?

You mention Apollo Private Wealth in your first post. Yet they are sales reps of St James Place.

Why? This is a really important rather than facetious question. You said earlier that you're not high net worth, so why are you considering private equity as an asset class at this point?

There's a reason why some investments are only marketed to HNW individuals.

This just leads to further questions. If you're a professional investor, why on earth are you looking for a financial adviser to access these funds rather than going execution only via a brokerage? A financial adviser would presumably add no value in this area for you, so why are you looking for one?
