PIP appeal timescales when you don't have capacity

I have only limited details but wanted to know if there was a way to delay when the appeal needs to be in by:
As far as I can tell, person made a PIP application which was turned down then shortly afterwards was admitted to a mental health unit under section. They are not well enough to make the appeal, which I understand has to be done with in a month, and there is no appointee.
Where do they/their family stand on trying to get the deadline extended? There is a relative who could support with form filling but the person wouldn't understand what they were signing at present.
Thank you.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Are you talking about the Mandatory Reconsideration?
You have up to 13 months with good reason

If you are talking about an appeal after the MR has been turned down my belief (and a little experience) is that you can get an extension with good reason. That's not explicitly stated on the CitA site, though. Others who post here with more experience (for example Alice) should know0 -
Maybe an appointee is needed... https://www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-someone-claiming-benefitsWhere do they/their family stand on trying to get the deadline extended? There is a relative who could support with form filling but the person wouldn't understand what they were signing at present.
Thank you.0
