..I have always stayed clear of any French cars since having some major (and costly), problems with an early Pug 405.
Recent Which surveys suggest that in general French cars are still considered less reliable, however all "modern" cars are extremely complex, particularly with regards to the electro-mechanical bits. Shame as I too like the "comfort" French cars seem to offer and they do seem to offer a bit better value for money secondhand, but I guess regarding reliability it's always going to be a bit of a risk. Going small engine petrol also seems to be a better option these days particularly if you do fewer miles, (I converted over to petrol 4 years ago and have been well impressed with the general performance and economy of the modern smaller petrol engines).0 -
I would recommend a C2.5 which only has front brakes.0

I wouldn’t have any diesel car now unless I was doing over 20000 miles a year up and down the motorway. 3 cylinder petrol cars (non ford) are enough for most people’s needs. These are economical and reliable (even the french ones) and cheap to run.0
