EDF / new tariffs smart meter dependant
Hi
My current EDF tariff ends in August, they emailed me to have a look at other available tariffs, but they are all dependant on having a smart meter fitted ( apart from the standard variable tariff )
It does say that you can opt out at a later date, but i am wary that this could be a lot of grief, and wondering if anyone else has been in this situation, and what they did, and if process ran smoothly ?
( I am dual-fuel and pay by monthly D/D )

To me a meter is a meter - it records what I used. I don't mind if its Smart or painted pink.
PS Do a search of the market and also see if dual fuel is the best choiceNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

Or if your private health insurance doubles because the energy company tells them about all your trips to the loo in the middle of the night..:eek:0 -

Only if you put the light on and I hardly think a 5 watt LED light switched on for a few minutes would be noticeable compared to what the fridge and freezer and the Sky box and other stuff left on during the night are using.0 -
I don't really want one, but if they will give us cheaper tariffs then we should try it, (and just be busy when they want to install them)0

You might change your mind when your smart meter cuts your off leaving you cold and dark while all your neighbours with pink meters stay warm and bright !

There is nothing new in the being cut off. Why bother with the odd customer or two and Smart meters when the grid needs to shed load. I was working for a distribution company which in the 1960's could cut off big swathes of consumers using the technology then available. Remember also the load shedding during the 3 day week. By the time I finished it was all more sophisticated.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

And when that doesn't work, they'll offer you an Uninterruptable Tariff, with massively expensive standing charges.
And when that doesn't work, they'll just knock your lights out...0
