Barclays unable to find account - can I still claim and how?

I made a claim in 2017 against PPI for an old loan account I had with Barclays, I was able to supply an address at the time and a reference number from an old letter for the loan but no account details.
Barclays responded to say they 'were unable to find an account in my name' and were now closing the complaint.
I now can't find my original letter but is there another way for me to check or further the investigation.
The account was a career development loan taken out in 2000 and I feel maybe I gave up too soon?
Thanks!

With no additional evidence from either side, how do you think you would be more successful a second time?
For a loan from 2000 then it's a good possibility that the bank disposed of the records a long time ago.0 -
My sister hadn't realised she'd taken out a ppi policy with Barclays many years ago & was pleasantly surprised when they wrote to her out of the blue a year or so ago telling her they were issuing her a ppi refund. She had never really checked her statements to see exactly what payments were leaving her account every month.
Whether this illustrates that Barclays are quite on the ball regarding checking their records & spontaneously issuing refunds even if a claim hasn't been made or not I'm unsure, but thought it worth mentioning. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
It’s also highly unlikely that Career Development Loans came with PPI (I know co-operative banks did not) so you may be chasing an already lost cause.helpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0
