Broken Airline Seat Compensation

Hi, I'm new to the forum so apologies if this is in the wrong place. I booked flights through Expedia and paid with my credit card. I had saved up and booked business class seats with American Airlines for myself and my two children as a very special treat for a big birthday of mine. We flew from Dublin to New York. I am based in Northern Ireland UK. On the flight one of our seats was completely broken. Would not recline or move at all, so no sleeping as we had to rotate between the seats. There were no spare seats and no alternative offered. The crew advised me to write to the airline for compensation which I did but they refused any compensation. We will probably never be able to afford to fly business class again so it really was such a disappointment as it was one of the highlights of the trip. One of the tray tables was also broken so food had to be eaten off my lap! Any suggestions on how I may get some redress or would it be futile to attempt this? Expedia say contact the airline. Credit card company say same. Consumerline say they can't hep cos the flight was ex Dublin. Thanks in advance!

Is it the wording?
Instead of asking for compensation ask for a part refund?0 -

If you google 'American Airlines broken seat', you will see what others have been offered..(seems to range between 7,500 and 20,000 miles)0 -
I tried using partial refund in my initial letter to AA and as we don’t fly to America often the points are no use to us I’m afraid.0

Your contract is with Expedia.
AA failed to live up to the service advertised by Expedia. Expedia need to provide redress for you.0 -

were you offered miles?
I have not seen any reports of anyone being offered anything other than miles
(AA miles can be spent on other airlines...eg BA flights)0
