Another Life (just out) looks like it could be good

Another Life is a load of nonsensical rubbish - got 2 episodes left and now only watching it so that it hopefully comes to an end and another season isn't planned. Shame really, as the main hero is whatsherchops from Battlestar Galactica reboot who played Starbuck. Had all the ingredients for a goods series, spoiled by the terrible script and the formulaic professional people making schoolboy errors just so the story can move towards it's inevitable disappointing ending. Had to get that off my chest.
After Life is worth a watch, also Designated Survivor with Jack Bauer as president of the US of A, Suits - up to about s6, Person of interest, and there's the odd gem of a film - recently enjoyed watching The Highwaymen with Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson, and the Chinese movie Wandering Earth (dubbed but still a good watch). I tend to watch have Netflix for a couple of months then cancel for a few months. Oh, and Lost in Space is pretty good too.

Yeah, we got about 3/4's of the way through just the first episode and gave up. Absolutely appalling, we switched to a film called 'Native' and got all of 15 minutes in and again gave up. At least the wifes caught up on Stranger Things now so we can start watching series 3 together.

Ive watched the first episode of generation war and cant wait to watch the others. Its about 5 young german friends from the start of the war and the paths they all took that changed their lives. A pretty unique perspective offering glimpses in to the mindset and involvement of every day Germans during the war.

Ive been on the hunt for less 'americanised' war films/series which tend to focus on the pacific and western fronts (although you can never really be too upset watching band of brothers/pacific etc). So along the lines of 'enemy at the gates' but less blockbuster if that makes sense. Generation war, i think, does it well.

Any other recommendations for eastern front war films/series? Happy to look outside Netflix if theres any recommendations (not trying to completely hijack the thread) or is there anything, drama based, for more recent conflicts ie yugoslav war, happy to have subtitles.

Thats the thing i dont like about Netflix.

Theres not really an effective rating system so you really have no idea if your about to watch a load of rubbish.

You click through more stuff thats rubbish than you do thats good, which compounds the issue as they then recommend more of the rubbish to you.

I dont mind low budget but want a certain standard. The lack of a rating system, i think, undermines it a bit. I usually get bored of googling what i find on netflix for a review so just put youtube on. There youll always find something youre happy to watch in the recommendations section with much less commitment than sticking through a series or film.
  • ive cancelled netflix for the year for the above problems and as I picked up Amazon Prime for £59 for the year will just stick with that until it expires. Enjoying "The Boys" on there atm.

they need to bring back the old 5 star rating system as the results given to me were much better than now where we can like or dislike only
