Chipped windscreen, insurance or not?

Have a chipped windscreen, which after looking online looks a star shape and says hard to fix.

Worse case scenario, how much is a replacement windscreen?
Worth going through insurance? Thinking of no claims bonus and declaring claim made for the next 5 years.

I've never lost any no-claims discount or had to declare a replaced windscreen (I've had maybe 3 or 4 over the years)

However . . . you'd need to check with both your present company and whoever you were planning to insure with next. Things change . .

Check your policy. It may stipulate who you use to replace it to be covered.
  • We got a free windscreen repair under our insurance, but when we changed insurer we forgot to declare it and nearly had our insurance cancelled. (I'd sorted out the repair, but when my wife changed insurers she didn't realise it counted as a claim).

Do check but a glass claim doesn't usually mean NCD is affected

But it is a claim, will go on your record and must be disclosed to future insurers.

I remember a time when the question asked was normally something like ". . have you made any claims (excluding windscreens) . . "

Seems the excluding windscreens bit is slowly disappearing :(

Cheers all, did dummy quotes last night, made up data with the windscreen claim and without = no change in premium.

Needs a new windscreen as just over the size of a £2 coin and a star shape, with Churchill who say will not affect NCB, gone with autoglass who is the recommended supplier. No need to contact Churchill as autoglass does this for you and just paid my £75 excess and being done Tuesday.

Now noting the date it's done on my calender ready to declare next year and next 4 years.
