Car Accident Insurance Question

Ten months ago I accidently bumped into another car. Neither side has made a claim as my car wasn’t damaged and they had a 5 pence size mark on their paint work. I did notify my insurance company at the time.

Axa, my insurance company, say that if I move insurance company I must notify the company of the accident even though neither side made a claim.

A friend has said, that by law, Axa must remove ALL information about this incident from their system.

Does any body know what the legal situation is? I’d like to quote an act/ law to Axa to make them remove reference to this accident as it might effect my policy premiums in the future.

Maybe you should ask your friend which law they believe Axa are breaking?

You did have an accident, you notified your insurer and they are quite correct to keep a record as the other party has plenty of time to bring a claim against you.

You must answer all questions honestly and accurately, so if you are asked if you have been involved in any accidents then the answer is yes - you have. You may not have made any claim but you were involved in an accident.

There will now be a record on the central CUE database and any future insurer will be able to see it, so if you do not declare it - expect to have a future policy cancelled for non-disclosure which would cost you a lot more than declaring an accident truthfully...
