Increase in bill from quoted amount

Just swapped to EON from NPower for dual fuel last month. Having submitted my first monthly reading now find that monthly DD should be £50 more than quoted on comparison web site (MSE) to cover annual bill. I am using same level of fuel as last year and the new figure is not much better than the end of contract new deal rates NPower were quoting. This happened when I swapped to NPower last time. I sense a bit of a theme going on here and wonder if anyone else has experienced similar.

Did you supply an accurate annual kWh usage to CEC ? I have never had a problem if supplying correct usage figures and my DD has always been 1/12th of annual cost. There have been adjustments in DD mid term due to fluctuations in use but nothing major.

Indeed if you did a search base on your old no longer existing csot then it probably came back wrong.

Only ever search with kWh figure(s).

Also yes it has gone up a lot, you were never going to get anything but an increase.

Your yearly usage and your current tariff rates post and we can check .

Likewise never ever had a low DD as a come on its always been tied to my expected usage and price on current tariff .

Not had a problem with DD being adjusted almost straightaway - half way though the year I had a minor tweak as my consumption rose after a cold spell.

I always use my actual kwh figures from my own spreadsheet - never the suppliers guess, number of rooms, how much I paid last year .

If you were on a fix that came to the end of its time you are unlikely to suddenly save £50 a month.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Hello gennaro.varriale and welcome to the Forums.

Already some good advice on here - thanks all. Our Monthly Direct Debits are initially based on the information we're given at the start of an account. As others have said, it's always best to give usage in kWh rather than a monetary amount.

After this, they're reviewed to make sure accounts aren't building up too much debit/credit. The aim is to reach as near as possible to a zero balance by the annual review. It's good if this can be done in 12 equal monthly payments. Changes in prices or usage sometimes means this isn't possible and we look to change payments to keep accounts on track.

We've an online tool to give you greater control of the payments including amending them both up and down to suit changing circumstances. When you've a minute, have a look at the Direct Debit Manager on our website. Might be of use in the future.

Hope this is of interest gennaro.varriale.
