Want to transfer payment from Barclays to Santander

I want to transfer a payment from my Barclays account in UK online to my builders account at Santander in UK. This returned 20533 error "Payee bank does not accept faster payments. Pay cash or check or use chaps at cost of £25."
I have never seen this before. Does Santander in UK really not accept inter bank payments online from Barclays in UK? Cost of the amount is £750.00

Santander UK is a member of the faster payments scheme, and should accept your payment.
Are you sure you have the correct sort code and account number?
Ensure that you get the correct details directly from the builder. Beware of scam emails that appear to come from your builder.0 -
Ok spoke to Barclays and turned out payee had sent me bank sort code with one wrong digit. However instead of a sensible error message saying "payee sort code invalid" or "payee sort code not recognised" , it returned it the above error message. Sorted now.0
