Thanks to everyone for the helpful replies.
The email I received did go into my Junk folder, so it was detected as fake. It was just the mention of the (old) password that worried me a bit.
Thanks again.0 -
There should be a sticky regarding this for those who are only just discovering that there are bad people out there and some stupid people who facilitate their existence.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Just for clarity but because it went to the junk folder doesn't mean an email is fake, it just means your email supplier or your local settings are reporting it as junk.
In this case it also happens to be fake but don't fall in to the trap that thinking everything in the junk folder is fake.0 -

I never said I didn't know there were these kind of people out there or that I had any intention of paying. I just wanted to know how serious a threat it was and if I needed to do anything (apart from pay, I would never do that)0 -
I've received a spate of dodgy emails since starting this thread, so my email address seems to have been passed around. The emails all go into my Junk folder and I delete them, so no great worries.
One I've just had is odd. I bought a product on Amazon last year and I've had an email saying that 'Jenny' has asked me a question about that product. It quotes my reviewer name correctly.
Rather than click on any link in that email, I went to my Amazon account and looked at the reviews/questions for that product - none were from anyone called 'Jenny'. I know it's the correct review/question point because I posted a review and I can see it there.
That seems odd to me. If its all legit, why can't I see the question from 'Jenny' and if its dodgy (a bit elaborate I think) , what possible use could it be to someone?0 -
Jenny may well be a screen name on Amazon that has changed (or they removed the question). Personally I'd say the "ask an owner" questions on Amazon are a waste of time anyway because they tend to be full of "I don't know" or "I had it for six seconds and sent it back because <insert remark that implies question answerer didn't read the item description in the first place before buying>" type answers.0
