rreplacing sink cupboard for pedestal

I have a bathroom sink which fits on top of a cupboard next to a shower, due to the water damage I want to remove the cupboard and put the basin on a ceramic pedestal. Are pedestals universal? What do I need to look for? I don't want to spend a lot as the bathroom will be changed in a few years if we don't move.

A countertop sink isn't going to fit on a pedestal.
A pedestal basin doesn't cost much and you could easily find a second hand one for pennies, on ebay.
You might find the waste needs re-plumbing as it won't be in exactly the same position for a pedestal.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I bought a good pedestal washbasin from the Ideal Standard clearance site for not much more than £50. A new, very well made tap for it cost about the same.
While I could have had one last week on Freecycle, it wasn't quite what I wanted, but that would have been another option. The local recycling centre also has a few for about a fiver.
As above, there will likely be differences in terms of fitting the waste and taps. It's not a long or terribly difficult job, but if you can't handle it yourself, the cost will probably equal that of a new basin0
