UC and SDP

Just a quick question for my friend. He gets PIP and got put on UC. He is waiting for an assessment as he can't work. I read on the news today that people on UC will be able to get SDP now. Does this mean he will or will he have to wait until his assessment is done? Thanks in advance.

Extra info. He was on ESA but wasn't migrated over. He failed his medical and gave up on it for a while. .

There's no premiums paid on UC at all.

What you read is that those that were transferred to UC and were previously claiming the SDP will be paid backdated money for the money they lost and they will also be given a transitional support protection for future payments.

If he didn't request the MR/Tribunal for the ESA then i'm afraid he won't qualify for any of this. If he had requested these and a decision went in his favour then it may have been different.

Oh that's unfortunate. I'll let him know. Thank you for your help.
