is 50/50 a fair split if he earns far more than you?

Remember when you're married technically both incomes are classed as one household income regardless of who earns what.

What some couples do is split the bills as a percentage of their income. So If he earns 60% of the total household income then he would pay 60% of the bills and you would pay 40%

Also remember its not just down yo you to meet savings goals and again this could be done on a joint split however you both agree.

It's good he 'helps' you out but when you're married his money is your money and not that's his savings and I dont have any.

I was thinking exactly the same.

Don't mean to intrude, but it does seem like your finances are very disjointed with your fiance. If you really are loyal and love each other then I would expect you two to work together to save for your future!

  • Sorry I completely missed some information from the post about splitting.

    Let me retype -

We go 50% on furniture and fun stuff like wanting to buy the ps4 or a new tv.

He pays a lot more in terms of Bill's such as £645? For rent, tv and internet, the car as it's his but use it for us.

He puts £1,000+ into his savings and we use his savings for when things break .. I just pay him half when possible.

We share finances just not one account
  • Spendy few days .
only gonna get worse as bus fare has gone from being £66.00 a month to £72.80 a month.
I need to pay the governement £13 for my rolling DBS this happens yearly though
so because of these added costs, I moved my emergency funds to my current account (Natwest) as these weren't expected.

Room leader position is available in work for the room I would be transferring to and asked to be considered for it , I need to fill the application form out. I don't get paid much more than what i do now but it does make a big difference over time. I'm not going for the job role just for the money... I pretty much do most of the job role now and I have so much I want to bring into the room to make it better and more in line with the manager's visions and ofsted requirements. It's a role i've always wanted

The hubs-to-be brought pizza & cider so NSD - took own lunch to work.
  • Had a bit of a rubbish week.
Had to move money from emergency fund back into my normal account as busfare had gone up &
My DBS had trouble taking money out of my account as I had a new card and forgot to switch before payment was due.

STILL NO response from work about getting paid the wrong wage, emailed the payroll lady yesterday.
Work is finding train tickets for us to go on first aid training in cardiff as we refused to pay for it ourselves.

Also looking for another job as things in my work are making me feel super stressed and cannot deal anymore because of stuff such as being 4 children over our ratio and a staff member knowing this but refusing to go in until ratios were okay. A staff member being told to "sort it himself" when he was also over ratio, me and some other staff members going without 30 min break as "no cover" but she could easily go in to the rooms as we all have a systems to let parents in... ? I'm wanting to progress to be room lead so some of the new nurseries are very career progression based.

Today is my booked day off so catching up on washing , general cleaning and will have to go for xrays later on my hips because of my ongoing back issue.

Hoping not to spend too much today .
Did weekly shopping which came to £59 however I had to buy household stuff that we ran out of

I think what you're facing is normal. We went through similar not so long back. You think you're getting on track and something else comes up. Stay motivated it wont always be .ike this and if it is you'll learn how to be better prepared.

Now that the bus fare has gone up at least you can factor that in now going forward each month until the next rise. Always best to over budget if you can to allow for such increases and then you're not caught out unexpectedly. It is difficult when money is tight but saves you scrambling around and stressing.

Being under staffed sounds typical. A lot of places let you sink before recruiting extra people.

As for the train fares they should pay for their staff. It's not fair to expect everyone to be out of pocket. You would probably be allowed to claim it back but that usually isn't until pay day if it's anything like my place.
  • i'm holding off looking for work as they have been so good to me with recent back trouble and I'm waiting to see what the changes are like in September.

I Am doing so rubbish with money.

    * I had to buy a new pair of glasses, brought 2 as mine seems to break in work,
£17 for 2 plus P&P. I had to borrow some money from our wedding fund.

    * I had 2-4 days off work this month

    * Cardiff eventually got cancelled as it was "too much hassle" to sort our transport

  • What a rubbish month. Borrowed way more than wanted from wedding fund but we made overpayments so can still afford the wedding.

I'm really wanting to do better... I'm just failing.

    Payday tomorrow thank god.

Okay so last month was a little tough but got through it.
Wedding has been paid for and we are in NO debt because of it and I am now officially MRS KING!

I got paid last friday but only £541 which doesn't cover all of my bills alone but luckily we had been gifted £1,550 in wedding gifts and I have taken out £120 to cover bills. I have earned little this month because I have been so ill with my back/rib/tummy issue a lot. I will keep track of how much I am taking out to put back in.

Me & the husband will be using £365 to buy christmas presents & will put this back in too .
The plan was for me to put £200 in from septembers pay and £100 from Octobers pay, but obviously i screwed it up.

I've already purchased some gifts which came out of what was left from septembers money,
£4 - 2 boxes of marshmallows and 2 boxes of rainbow sour strips for my cousins.

    Today's plan;
    - Buy Tesco meal deal , keep to £3 and bring own chocolate & babybel
    - Go to work 12-6pm
    - Start listing some stuff on sites (Have listed 3 things on ebay today)

    OCT Goals
NO time off at work or be sent home - 1/23
    Food shop weekly - 1/4
Organise + Clear wardrobe, Sell any clothes don't want
Get rid of wedding stuff or sell (list on ebay/FB/Shpock/Depop)
     15+ NSD

    OCT SPENDING LOG;
1st oct - £48.90 Food shopping. A new month meaning I had to buy some household supplies
2nd Oct - 80p on notecards , Need them for a bible study project & for my budgeting maybe if i decide to go down that route. Planned expense - £3 meal deal

    Changes
At the moment, £1,000 EF is a little steep for me so have changed this to £500 and to pay back how much I had taken from wedding gift fund. It's hard to do this month but have already started to deposit a little into it.

Have new bill - NHS certificate.
I get ill often or need to buy strong painkillers for my back and have refused to pay £40+ each month so thought this is a better option.
