New House, Many Questions!

Hello all
I posted a while ago about moving house and the best way to do it, many thanks for all your replies - we moved last Friday week and were totally unpacked by the following Wednesday.
However life has turned us on its head. We bought our new house and moved in before the other one was sold, but we did have a buyer. Today, the buyer has pulled out, leaving us to pay 2 mortgages plus a bridging loan.
Not too much of a problem as we can afford that on both our salaries, but our new house needs so much doing to it which now we will be unable to afford until we sell our house again.
So, here are my questions:
Where is the best place to get the 'stick on' double glazing stuff you put on with a hairdryer? How much do you need to do a window (then I can multiply that by 8!)
How can I heat my bathroom that has no radiator, 2 outside walls and very little insulation and is thus freezing all the time? Towels get damp whilst I am in the shower, so are cold and wet to dry myself with.
Where can I get a fireplace tray to catch the ashes from? Our open fire was lit for the first time last night after I realised I had no way of cleaning it. Also the room felt smoky to breathe in, but visually was ok. Any ideas?
I need to get some cheap washing machine for the house we are going to rent. Where is best? Also need a new fridge freezer, where is the most economical place to buy one?
Is there anyway of lagging my kitchen cupboards - the kitchen is very very cold, sitting between 12 and 15 degrees all day.
And finally, to top it all off, we have mice. Not surprising since the house was grotty when we moved in, but how can I get rid of them? They are not going in the traps I thoughtfully provided. We also a million 'cellar' spiders, the ones with the tiny bodies but huuge long legs. I know they eat other bigger spiders, but I still don't like the quantity I have of them in my house. How can I keep the numbers down?
Ok, that is probably enough for now - thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Di....just quickly....please get your chimney swept, as, if there is a blockage, not only is it bad for you, it will just fill your house with smuts.
The ashpans can possibly be got from an old fashioned ironmongers, or maybe try a place that sells fireplaces...they may be able to point you in the right direction. If not, maybe ring the local coal merchant for some ideas.
The bathroom problem, you can get wall mounted heaters for bathrooms that operate on a pull cord....or get a small oil filled radiator, just make sure it is plugged in outside the bathroom and keep well away from water.
I hate getting out of the shower, so now, I grab a small towel to wrap around my hair and then dry mysel with a facecloth whilst still in the shower....whilst it doesn't dry you 100%, it gets the worst of the water off and then I hop out and wrap myself in a towel.
2 benefits of this.....the face flannel will dry off quickly, or can be thrown straight into the wash and the larger towel will air off in next to no time, as it hasn't really been used to dry you.
Will think about the rest of your problemsOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
