Thanks for the posts. Since the flat is top-floor, I was wondering if anything (dust, fibreglass, flies etc) can come out of the wall cavity -- is the cavity exposed when you take out a window frame?

Re the slip issue with dust sheets, luckily it's lino floors throughout so at least that means no need to put dustsheets on the floor, they'll just be used to cover furniture, etc.

Hopefully it won't be too bad, as some have found, but at least I'll be covered for all eventualities now. Given the way this HA treats its tenants I'm not expecting them to clean up after themselves :)

I don't know how they are doing your work, are they replacing all the windows at the same time, or doing room by room. I would move all furniture out if possible.

Builders will place their tools anywhere, they find convenient.
  • There was a fair bit of dust and rubble produced, so I was glad of the advice to buy in dust sheets. The fitters were good blokes who I kept fed with tea and biscuits and pop as required.

The only thing I forgot was to tape the sheets in place. I came back from the shops once to find the breeze had blown the sheets off one pile of boxes, so some dust got in there. Quite a bit of hoovering, dusting and mopping required at the end.
