French police are currently having a blitz on British registered vehicles so beware if you travel through France. So far they have requested details from the DVLA for over 4,000 vehicles so they can issue fines for things such as speeding even if barely over the limit.

The drawback there is that you need to spend time in France :rotfl:

I'm not sure that it's a blitz on British vehicles as radar speed checks catch anyone over the limit. Fines are easily avoided aren't they - just keep under 130km/h on motorways? I'm rather pleased that people driving foreign registered cars are treated the same as the locals.

All the replies assume a ferry to Santander/Bilbao. While that's Northern Spain, it's not the Pyrenees. That's another 4-5 hours. If you get a ferry to Brittany, it's about 10 hours riding time to the Pyrenees. I've done Spain several times getting the Brittany landing going out and the Santander departure coming back.

Good point shinytop; and as I said in post 5, above, you might struggle to get Brittany Ferries Spain crossings both ways anyway as they are pretty well booked by now for Sept (and there's a problem with the Pont Aven, one of their boats), So Brtittany on at least one of your inbound/outbound trips might be easier.

But even so, with such crossings, everything I said in post #5 about cheaper package deals still applies; and you can book multi-site hols by phoning in!

not a biker but i can say the "motorway" from Bilbao to France is very bendy and undulating which I would think would be interesting for bikers.

contrast with the 10-12 hour drive from caen or st malo which is mind numbingly dull but quicker overall if you're in a renault scenic.
