I have definately seen the "free cancellation until" statement on previous bookings so i'm not sure why everyone is acting like i've just totally made that up.
Now you've mentioned hotels.com and booking.com, I can understand where your 'paying extra for free cancellation' comes from.
I also have booked hotels on booking.com and cancelled without penalty - because I deliberately paid extra for that option.
But that really isn't the same as booking with a 'proper' tour operator like TUI.
I always have documentation that proves that my hotel booking is cancellable without penalty.
Which you don't appear to have...
Nobody is 'attacking' you.little_green wrote: »Again, not sure why people seem to be attacking me re the final balance not being due until 2 weeks before departure, it was the company that set this date not me! I could have happily paid it earlier if required.
I simply pointed out that TUI - a company that you mentioned in your first post - require balance no later than 12 weeks before departure.
Loveholidays require payment by the 'balance due date' but do not specify what that date is.
I doubt that anyone here can answer your question as we were not party to the telephone conversation or online booking process.little_green wrote: »So my question is why isnt this detailed on the booking?
We have not seen the emails you've received.
We can't answer that question either - for the same reasons detailed above.little_green wrote: »If it was advertised at time of booking as having last free cancellation date (for hotel only) as eg. 1st Aug then could I in theory as long as I cancel by then wouldnt be charged, or would i still be bound by the t&c's despite it saying it was free cancellation? Also why is there no record anywhere of that free cancellation until date.... ? Because if i did need to cancel i have no proof i selected that option over the cheaper non cancellable one
Did you check the confirmation carefully?
If that clause wasn't present, you should have taken it up with Loveholidays immediately.
It's lucky then that you don't need to cancel...little_green wrote: »I am asking out of curiosity, I do not wish to cancel.0 -

All i know is at the time of booking it definitely said "free cancellation until..." & yes that may have only been in regards to the hotel portion of the holiday (not the flights or transfers) but given i paid extra for this option as opposed to taking the cheaper non refundable option I feel I am right in expecting it to be detailed in some for or another on the booking.
yes it's extremely lucky i do not need to cancel this time and in the future I will be more thorough at the time of booking checking the confirmation/booking documents received.
I have not specified the date on purpose & it's irrelevant as I've made clear the final balance is due 14 days prior to departure.
Perhaps you don't mean to come across as attacking, but you are coming across rude in your responses. I made this thread looking for advice, not a stern talking to with a finger pointing in my face.0 -
I'm pretty sure (99.999%) that the free cancellation would not have included flights.little_green wrote: »All i know is at the time of booking it definitely said "free cancellation until..." & yes that may have only been in regards to the hotel portion of the holiday (not the flights or transfers) but given i paid extra for this option as opposed to taking the cheaper non refundable option I feel I am right in expecting it to be detailed in some for or another on the booking.
Even booking flights direct with the airline, you usually have the option of paying more for flexible tickets or cheaper option that is non-changeable and non-refundable.
I doubt Loveholidays or any similar agent would book a more expensive, flexible ticket (even if that option was available).
Of course you are right expecting any condition to be detailed on the booking.
I would too.
But I would have checked the booking confirmation and addressed any error promptly.
I'm pleased that you will do the same in the future.
You misunderstand.little_green wrote: »I have not specified the date on purpose & it's irrelevant as I've made clear the final balance is due 14 days prior to departure.
I did not mean you hadn't specified the date the final balance was due.
I meant Loveholidays do not specify the date the final balance is due in their T&Cs - as TUI do.
I thought my meaning was clear.Loveholidays require payment by the 'balance due date' but do not specify what that date is.
I regret that you think it wasn't.
I regret that you feel I am coming across as rude in my responses.little_green wrote: »Perhaps you don't mean to come across as attacking, but you are coming across rude in your responses. I made this thread looking for advice, not a stern talking to with a finger pointing in my face.
I've reread my earlier replies to you and I feel that i was prefectly polite in my replies.
I posted my own experiences and observations.
I posted links and quotes from a company you mentioned in your original post.
If anything, it's you who has come across as rude in your responses by accusing posters of "attacking" you and accusing you "of making things up".
Nobody had done anything of the kind.
I hope you enjoy your holiday.0 -

It definitely would not include flights. Your thread title is a bit confusing.
This isn't a TUI package. You booked accommodation through Love Holidays and they used whichever supplier they used, and the flights you choose to book via Love Holidays were with TUI. I presume that's where TUI come into it?
You have 2 separate contracts. One with LH accommodation supplier (a bedbank) and one with TUI for your flights. You'll have a 3rd contract with the supplier of your transfers. They all have their own terms and conditions.0 -
my initial post says i booked the holiday via love holidays/tui. I standby this statement.
Again, I don't know why people are saying "i'd be surprised if you're flights are refundable" at no point have i suggested they are. My assumption was that the balance I paid on the booking date ie the deposit was the non refundable cost of the flights.
Love holidays have shared /made clear the date the final balance will be taken, i've just chosen not to share this date on the forum.0 -

...similar to not providing evidence or sharing who your 'free' cancellable bookings were with in the past?0 -

Nobody has mentioned the date that Loveholidayds told you the final balance will be taken.
I've already covered that in my earlier post.0 -

Perhaps you dont intend it, but your post does come across as accusatory.
I did actually share 2 previous providers hotels.com bookings.com I
I can't remember every single provider I've booked holidays with.
I have not posted the date as I don't want the whole world knowing when i'm going on holiday not bc I have some conspiracy going.
I thought this forum was a supportive place for advice clearly I was wrong. The judgement I've experience within this thread has really made me think twice about posting for advice now.0 -
For myself, I can't help you in the way of advice, but I note that a member here who is also on Tripadvisor (Air Travel Forum) always spouts off.
She knows who she is. And I know who she is.

Not sure what the point of your post was if you can't help the OP in the way of advice.Stephenmac wrote: »For myself, I can't help you in the way of advice, but I note that a member here who is also on Tripadvisor (Air Travel Forum) always spouts off.

At least the other posts have been on topic - regardless of whether the OP liked the answers or 'tone'...0
