Is it normal for one house to feed next doors electricity? Semi detached

Hi,
I'd it normal on 1950s semi detached houses for one house to feed the other. I.e the main comes into one building then feeds the other too.
I mean my house feeds my neighbours, I have traced the wire and it doesn't go up to my metre and it looks like it's not spliced. I.e it's looks professional except the huge hole cut through for it.
Just seems weird so thought I'd ask around

As long as the split is before the meter it is fine. But annoying as access is required by the supplier (or agents) for both properties.
Assumedly the consumer units are in each house. So mostly not an issue.
Would not be done these days, but in the past? Yeah probably.0 -
As above. I've seen it at least once I can think of recently. Terraced property.0
