Virgin AMEX - Companion Flight Rip Off

Hi all

Just lost my rag with Virgin AMEX over their 'Free Companion Flight' offer......which isnt quite as it seems.

Booking flights to Orlando from London 21/6/08-4/7/08. Virgin website total cost £515.70. I rang Virgin Flying Club to book this and the companion flight only to be told the 'Free' Companion Flight was only valid on a ticket costing £733. So adding in the taxes the total for 2 would be £893.....thats WITH the 'FREE' Companion flight!

If i booked both tickets on the website it'd cost me £1030.

So a saving of only £137..........THOUGH i wouldnt get the 8,672 Virgin Miles on the 'Free' Companion ticket.

The saving would have been almost wiped out had i moved my flights by 2 days!!!!!

So please dont be fooled into thinking you get a 'FREE' Companion ticket.......you have to pay more in order to get it.

It also gets worse.......be careful when buying tickets with Miles and Money.

One example saw the cost of a ticket to Sydney by just paying as normal at £710.......but with using miles, 4000 of them, the cost of the ticket WENT UPto £807.70.

SO........not only costing £97.70 more......BUT........also 4000 miles......AND..........you dont get the 21,100 Virgin Miles either!!!!!!!
