Electricity

Hello Everyone,

I have moved recently into a new build home and am trying to get an electricity supplier,

I am looking through comparison sites including this one and they all seem to ask for a previous supplier (which, of course don't have) and asking for the MPAN number (again no bills because no previous supplier) when I go through to the supplier,

Can someone help me with this predicament?

Kind regards,

R Raino

Your builder should be able to give you details of your present supplier - you need to ring them and give the meter readings from when you moved in.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Also the DNO for the area will have it on record and are happy to advise

Just to be 100% clear. YES YOU DO. Ring up and find who it is.

Google -> who is my electricity suppier. You will find a number.

Yes it's a new build so there is likely a plot/house number mix up and it will be a pain, but you can help by giving the meter number to the number you find above.

And yes, the builder should have given you this information. Show's just how much they care about anything other than selling the house.

Many area's have multiple DNO's and new builds are often the one to go with the not normal for the area DNO.

They also have no reason to advise an end customer if they do not want.

^ I don't know the legal situation but in some circumstances they are the only way you can find out. Northern Powergrid were really helpful.

The DNO by contract are only answerable to the supplier and do not have to take customer calls.

However they are often helpful and nice as why not!

NPG are the formation of YEDL and NEEB DNO in the Yorkshire and Northern areas and previously owned by npower until spun off years ago. Always been easy to deal with. (at least in my sexperience).

However Southern distribution (and others ) also work in these areas. And are especially fond of cutting a deal on new developments to get an inroad. However NPG would well you this as they are nice. But it all depends on the area.

There are of course numbers to phone where you can give yout address (plot number would be good also for new builds as builders like to not update), and meter number and get a mpan and supplier.

Yes I know you are not OP but I am just giving info here.

OP, if you want to PM me yout address/meter number I can look up the electric info for you. If you do not want to you do not have to, just offering.

Gas if you have any I cannot help with, not my area.

The energy supplier details should be in your LEGAL PACK from your solicitor.
