Villa company want me to email credit card details

Basically, I've booked and paid for a villa holiday through a reputable, local company in Spain. They now need security for any breakages that may occur whilst we're there so have sent me a form to put my credit card details on and it's asking for all details: long number, dates and CCV code. I'm not comfortable to give all of these details and further not comfortable to send it by email but can't see another way for them to do it.

Am I being over-cautious?

It's certainly not the safest way of doing it, but in reality, the risk is still fairly low. And you're protected in any case.

I would password protect it though and send the password through a different means.

No you're not being over cautious. I would never send an email with those details - just phone them

They can't be that reputable as what they're doing is in flagrant breach of card security regulations.

Either they have an accredited secure online payment portal or you'll do a chip+pin verification at their office (or their rep on site can use a portable machine).

Just a quick word on the CVV2 value on the back of the card - no retailer is permitted to store this data; I know it happens but it shouldn't.

You also need to check the wording on the form. If it reads like you are agreeing to be charged, then you would have great difficulty disputing a later debit where you deny any breakages. Hopefully, they are indeed reputable and nothing untoward will happen.
