I’ve looked up the fridge. It’s around 2 years old, A+ rated. Apparently uses 419kwh pa. So that shouldn’t be a major culprit.

I wouldn't just take that value as read. I would also check your real usage so that you know 100% that it is not a big power drain.

Have you listed every single device that consumes electricity to work out exactly what is always powered up? That list might reveal something like a instant hot water tap or fish tank pump/lights.

For me my baseline is 110w (looking at monitor when everything is off - apart from routers, fridge, boiler, microwave, pc on sleep etc).

I could probably save pennies by switching a few things off completely but not worth the faff.

My baseline is 52w: router, boiler, landline, refrigeration, (when switched off, higher when they kick in).

I found an OWL monitor that I had used in a previous house (pre smart meter!) so have fired that up and started my detective work.

The kids’ (old) TVs were using quite a lot on standby, router and security cameras around 30W each, but I still can’t seem to get it below around 200W...

The fridge requires a little more investigation, but the usage only dropped a little when I switched it off for a couple of minutes. Certainly not the whole 250.

    I’ll keep looking!
  • When I was on holiday recently I used 28kWh in 13 days, that was a fridge, a freezer, Sky box my Virgin hub, a hive hub and a NAS backup drive I forgot to turn off.

Not really a great idea to leave TV's and consoles on standby when away for one or two weeks, for safety reasons rather than economy.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
