This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning all
I cant believe the daily has not been started already I hope you are all having a good lay in !
Its a beautiful day here nice and sunny, OH has put his work clothes onto wash and will hang them out after.
Couple of jobs to do today but nothing too taxing. This afternoon we shall walk to the next village to a strawberry fair which is held every year its a really nice event a bit like an old fashioned fete, we shall walk over and then we can have a pimms and wont have to worry about driving back.
House work is all done so will have the day off from all of that !
BBQ tonight so just some fresh salad to make up for that, I made pasta salads up yesterday and there is enough for today.
Have good days all xx

Hi Redruby, very quiet here today, the thread appears to be dying a bit, we need some new blood.
Mind you, I haven't been posting as often because our life seems to be very quiet at the moment. It all seems very trivial compared to other things going on in the world.
Today I shall be walking Ziggy and then cooking a chicken to eat when Laura and Brian get back from their spa weekend.
Steve and I went to the theatre to see a sort of Joyce Grenfell tribute but it wasn't terribly good. I actually derived more enjoyment from watching Steve's bewildered face than the actors. I've been to quite a few musical things with him where I've endured rather than enjoyed so it was entertaining. I'm one of those strange creatures who could happily live without music (I believe Martin Lewis is another) although I like to be able to hear the melody and words if I am listening, oh and for it not to be too loud. I enjoy classical music and musicals but never feel the urge to switch on the radio and as for streaming, meh.
I hope a few more people come along to post, maybe it's just the summer doldrums, like the TV.0 -
Morning folks and thanks RR. No sleep in for me but I did have a lazy start before cracking on with a few neglected jobs, as I know the garden and my book will be calling if the forecast is right!
I ended up getting the bus on to Otley yesterday. I did originally plan on Harrogate but when bus changeover time arrived I decided to stay in Otley and amble round there instead! Of course St Gemma's was my first port of call and it didn't let me down - 3 brand new t shirts for 99p each!. Nothing special but will replace the tatty ones I currently keep as house t shirts!
I had an early phone call to delay my set off time yesterday! But it was a very welcome one from my friend, now back in Oz. I think she is missing us as she is already saving up for another trip! Next time she plans to spend more time up here and less time with her DB in Devon. As much as she enjoyed her time down there this is where her roots are.
DS and co were due home from their holiday in the early hours but they must be having a much needed sleep in as I haven't heard anything from him yet!
The excitement of a bit of ironing is now calling before it gets too warm. Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) for all in need, the carers and the MIA. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all.
Thanks for the start RR - I was awake early doors and browsing. I find it difficult to start the thread on the iPad so left it.A strawberry fair with Pimms sounds perfect for a summer Sunday, hope you have a great time.
Snoozer - music is very important to me though musicals I can live without easily, I find them so annoying. People singing sentences...
TA - more bargains!
This morning I'm off to collect a parcel from A mazon and then going to visit a friend. I've got some things I want to hand over and a knitting project which his friend may be able to finish.
DM didn't eat too much yesterday though she is supping the Ensure. She asked for three baby rusks this morning.
Thoughts to all - and a Happy Sunday too.0 -
Morning all,
I had a very productive day yesterday as I changed the duvet for my lightest weight one and I also took off the heavy mattress topper. The latter was put in the bath and the grape treading dance ensued :rotfl:. It's still there soaking in softener and it doesn't look like it will go outside anytime soon as it's drizzling. That wasn't in the forecast, no rain for the coming week according to those supposedly in the know . I'll have to empty out the water and leave it drip a while.
Yesterday during a decluttering session, I found a bag of CD Roms which I asked Mr Fix It to check before they get thrown out. In the bag we found an old DVD of my late Mum chair dancing to " Spirit in the Sky " and one of the DGC when they were little ......awwww ! The world stopped for a while as we watched and reminisced.
Today is Sunday lunch day ( obviously  ) and it's roast pork, roasties, green beans, carrots etc. Tea will be a selection of sandwiches and cakes and Dad has his usual invite too. Nothing much will be done today other than cooking and TV watching, but if it's sport Mr Fix It and I will be on the laptops as we don't enjoy sport !
Righty ho ! the veg prepping calls.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday.
Take care all

There do not seem to be as many people posting on here generally, I guess RL is having an effect.
We had heavy rain and thunder for a while yesterday, its bright and sunny this morning. Our usual brekkie in bed, up just after 9.30 OH is in the garden. I have just ironed a fitted sheet, my back is so painful just now I can only do one thing, I did manage the 8 pillow cases yesterday, but the quilt cover will have to wait until tomorrow.
My back is what is driving me to give up quilting, it involves a lot of getting up and down when piecing and putting a quilt together. I do have 2 tops I want to finish, I think I am going to have to send them to be quilted. Then I need to go over the fabric I have left and decide what to do with it. I have a couple of jelly rolls which cost me quite a lot, do not really want to give them away, they were over £20 each. Might put them on EBay, although I do resent paying the fees that they and paypal charge. I might try facebook market place.
Roast chicken tonight.........veg from the garden........not sure what we are having for dessert as yet.0 -
Hi there, i read this board quite often, but have never posted.
Just seen snoozers comment about needing some new blood.
I would love to join in, if you will have me.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
I only woke up once in the night so I feel like a new woman this morning. It's amazing what a difference a good night's sleep makes to me. Steve has just made us dippy eggs and soldiers and Jemima has just left the grandchildren with us as she and her husband are off to Andover until Monday evening. Steve has plans to take the dogs out for a long walk so hopefully the grandchildren will want to go out too.
We are having chicken salad again for Sunday lunch. I don't mind though as chicken is my favourite. I will be sorting through my knitting patterns looking for some inspiration. My knitting mojo has been absent recently so it will be nice to get interested in making something again.
Welcome nanto3girls, the more the merrier here especially as some of our regulars are MIA. I look forward to hearing about you and your grand daughters.
I hope your back will get better soon csarina, I hope you can find a buyer for your jelly rolls too xx
nannyw, how lovely having a trip down Memory Lane. The kids still ask to see their baby and toddler videos, it gives us all a good giggle xx
redruby, the strawberry fair sounds wonderful, I used to love going to things like that. Enjoy your Pimms xx
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Hey Nanto3girls welcome aboard - there's always room for another. And we have something in common already - we are both from God's Own Country and both grans to 3 girls! Mine are 14 (soon to be 15) 10 and 8 (soon to be 9) how old are yours? My DS's partner has 3 kids (12, 14 & 16) but they have their own grans, That doesn't mean they get overlooked at birthdays and Christmas though!
Here I am, all necessary jobs done, including the bit of ironing, but where is the sun I planned to sit out in and read?! It's there lurking behind the clouds and trying to appear, just not trying hard enough! I think our local weatherman is only right when he says it's going to rain!!
Have a good day all xxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
I haven’t posted for a while in part because I wanted to take a break from the forums and concentrate on RL since I got discharged from hospital recently. I haven’t even been reading the thread so will have a read back later today over the past few weeks and find out what has been happening with everyone.
I’ve just walked up to the supermarket for some salad bits and milk. I want to get the housework done because the forecast is for hotter weather from tomorrow and I won’t feel like doing it then.
Next week I am planning to have at least one day out to the seaside, I’m not sure where yet though. It will depend on whether or not I go on my own or if a friend comes with me, in which case I will let her choose where.
Over the summer I want to try and get the whole of the house decorated. Although I do the entrance hall very regularly the rest of the house hasn’t been done for a few years. Over the past week I have managed to paint the sitting room woodwork and am pleased with how it looks (provided you don’t look on the inside of the cupboard doors that haven’t been done yet. Well, no one can see them
).
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Morning all! Last night was a visit to a friends house for his birthday, we wre there till about 2am, but it was good, we watched a few weird things on the TV internet whatchamacalit and had a fire out the back so now I stink of woodsmoke. The taxi driver was funny, he plans on going to a bike ride to a pub with his girlfriend today and was wondering if it was going to be sunny..His plan was to bike to a pub, then have a pint, so I suppose at least he was working it off [ unlike me or the OH....]
Today, garden staring while mentally pottering is the order of the day, I need to pot on a phoenix canariensis, hoping it will live ot be planted in the earth, and chop down the rosemary outside which has turned into a complate thug in it's 4 years of being planted. I have another three in various places but everything next to it I plant dies because there's no moisture in the earth and I have roses and I might try the fatsia and the phoenix thing there next year...
snoozer, I took a trip down memory lane and read some of the old threads on the daily, there were loads of names I didn't know, and some still posting, so it's a come and go thing I think. It is like a diary really, and daily posting can be vexxing when there's nothing to report - I end up waffling a lotTA, why not go visit her? Gers, have a nice time out of the house...nanny, that's lovely. I have a message recording of me talking to my mother on my home phone, I listen to it now and again [ recorded by accident] but I usually don't listen all the way through because I can't stand to hear how disinterested I sound. It shames me. Csarina, how about a swivel chair and a lower thinner worktop? Instead of having the entire quilt laid out flat, slide it back and fore like an ironing board type thing? If it was this shape [sort of ] _H_ without the top two bits of the H, it could puddle either side of the main top. Just thinking aloud though, hope your back improves or at least doesn't get worse. hey nanto3, welcome...dumpling, I had planned cereal for breakfast [haven't had it yet] but egss and soldiers sounds a lot better.
Wotcha missings...
Standard Sunday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
