Was mystery refund PPI related?

Options
A little back-story. A few years ago we got into financial difficulty and ended up on a DMP with Step Change. We've been committed to the process, and our £28,000 has turned into less than £4k over 24 months. We're on track to be debt-free in a few more months. We've been helped a little by two unexpected payouts from creditors. Firstly, Barclays mysteriously paid out £700. It cleared one creditor balance on the DMP and left us with some cash (which also came off the DMP). A few weeks later Barclaycard paid out £2780, and that was automatically deducted from my old credit card balance. Again, totally unexpected, and in both cases the letter we received just said something vague about "not maintaining the high standards we should expect of Barclays", but offered no actual information.

Today I've started seeing adverts on Facebook relating to payouts. Barclays and Barclaycard are both mentioned. Digging around I gather this might relate to something I've never heard of, called the 'Plevin Ruling'?

Are the payments I already received something to do with this? As I said, the letters offered no insight at all into what they were, which I took to be the bank not wishing to admit they've ripped me off at some point in the past.

Should I be looking to recoup more money from the bank?

I have exactly zero compunction when it comes to grabbing money off the bank. When the tables were turned they did it to me.

Plevin only applies to rejected PPI complaints.

These refunds are unrelated to PPI.

You won't therefore be receiving any more.

No, it's not PPI. It's to do with TCF.

You can't ask for the money back as you haven't yet repaid them what you owe.

Once fully repaid, if you reach that stage, any further refunds would be yours to keep.

Thanks. Useful to know. They offered no explanation at all. Just refunded us money. Good to have some idea what it was for.

My husband also had something similar from Barclays about a year ago. It’s not PPI related in anyway and like yourselves have us much breathing space! Good luck with the rest of your DMP
