Amazon Platinum Mastercard v Nationwide Select

I bought something from Amazon and because of their constant nagging and the £20 gift card I also applied for their Amazon Platinum Mastercard and was accepted.

I also have a Nationwide Select cashback credit card.

After studying the cashback % am I correct in my assumption that there is no difference in the cashback I will receive other than using the Amazon card on Amazon instead of the Nationwide select Card?

  • The amazon one pays you back in vouchers.

The NW one is paid back as cash.

    Depends whether you have prime.

Are you not able to compare the figures yourself to see which one is largest?

I have, I just wanted confirmation that the only real benefit is the gift card.

I only get prime when they give it to me as a special offer and I always cancel it before I have to pay.
Unless I am buying something less than £20 and I want it in a hurry and then the offer is less than the postage.

Doesn't nationwide only give 0.25% cashback?

Look at Barclays, Amex or Tandem, all give more cashback.
  • BarclayCard is only 0.25% cashback

    Why?

    I am trying to compare:

If you shop at amazon and use the amazon card then you get the equivalent of 1.5% in amazon vouchers. Spend elsewhere and you get 0.25% in amazon vouchers.

Nationwide is 0.25% cashback. Which do you think is better? Cash or amazon vouchers?

I would go for cash. But better than that, I would choose one of the other credit cards such as Aqua or Tandem which pay 0.5% cashback.

I only applied for the Amazon Card to stop the nagging and to get the gift card

If you saw an advert for a million pound yacht constantly would you apply for finance to buy it?
