Homebase own brand paint?

Bought a house a couple of months ago, and finally getting around to painting the kitchen/dining room. (And getting rid of the previous owners grease, I don't think they ever cleaned!)
Since we've had other countless things, I decided to try save money using homebase own brand of kitchen emulsion, since I'd used b&q's own brand for a feature wall and was really impressed!
Has anyone had any experience with homebase paint drying a totally different colour from the tin? We'd gone for what looked like a light cream colour, yet it's dried more of a gray? I don't have much experience with kitchen emulsion either, but my god the consistency! It's generally okay, for the main bulk of wall, but like a few inches where I'm cutting in around coving it's got the worst coverage.
The colour looks nice and all, just not what I was after. I begrudge paying about £40 on paint trying to cover it now though!
Just wanted to know if anyone had some good recommendations or experience with this paint?

It would depend on the colour of the base material, possibly the colour on the tin is on a pure white base/undercoat, or maybe it was an off white creamy colour?
Possibly just needs a few more coats to bring the colour depth?
Getting the worst coverage? oils/grease on that area? or its a darker area where the colour looks off due to the lighting?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I assume it was on a base white cost, which we did. It is a 'soft sheen' finish so I do wonder if that's the cause.
I am debating getting just another paint as with 2 coats it looks SO patchy, but that would mean more white coats wouldn't it... Doesn't help that we just got some lovely new bright light fightings... 0 -
Sorry to say... we got this a few years back and it was a massive mistake. We gor a matt colour for the hallway and if you walked out of kitchen with wet hands and it sprayed on wall- it would stain! Ended up with loads of water marks and so we had to paint few coats over it.
In the other room we used a roller and it dried patch after 3 coats. Couldn't get rid of it!0 -
Ughh.. well live and learn. I think I'll stick with Wilko next time. It doesn't look too bad in the daylight but I'm still not hugely impressed.0
