Trying to make a cheap-ish digital photo frame.

Hi;

I'm trying to knock up a photo frame for a club I'm in. The idea is that we now have so many photos on the walls that we'll scan them into something and display them on a nice 19" TFT mounted on the wall. Through the wall, in the Secretary's office, we'll have a media player filled with scanned pictures, and when the power is switched on, it'll self-boot and just start showing pictures. Power comes on automatically at 6.00 each evening, and is turned off at about 1.00 a.m.

I've looked at the Sumvision Aquaplus, SPV sell it for about £35, but I'm told it won't boot from cold; someone would actually have to start the slideshow using a remote control.

Can anyone suggest a media enclosure / player that will do what I want it to? Or is there perhaps another way - cheap old PC, loaded with pics; starts playing google screensaver; for example?

TIA for any suggestions;

Tim

  • You could use the PC option and use Irfanview to create a slide show in exe format, as demonstrated here

    Once you have created it in exe format, you can then add it to the startup so that it autoplays on the startup of the pc, Alternatively you could use open offices' Impress also freeware
  • Thanks RR; I like the look of Irfanview; and it'll run on '98 as well; which might be a good thing looking at some of the "old PC" options I have knocking about! Of course, it means I've got to get a computer to boot up by simply switching the power on, but I seem to recall that being an option if you do something dodgy with those cute little leads running around the inside of the motherboard with pluses and minuses on them....
