Best Grass Seed
Options
Been researching and it baffling with the 'best' grass seed to purchase to create a new lawn.
I am looking for the following characteristics but it may have to be a compromise.
Low maintenance, low susceptibility to weeds and disease
Slow growing, so don't need to mow it often
Low water requirements, ideally just watered with rainfall
Fine luxury looking type of grass
Medium foot traffic
Soil type is normal and fertile, things grow well and it not to shady.
Any recommendations to the type of grass seed to get?

What your asking for is the impossible, different mixes will provide you with different aspects, also soil type will also come into the mix, drought resistance on gravel is very different to drought restraint on clay.
Generally high % Rye grass mixes will be fast growing but also the most hardy.
Over grasses will provide and there are hundreds of amenity mixes will provide a nicer lawn but will require much more looking after, and can also suffer with drought.
All grasses will need a decent P&K index and preferably dressed annually in the spring, Nitrogen is also ideally added but more sparingly as this will just make the grass seed.
If you speak to an amenity grass seller (someone like Cotswolds grass seeds), they will be able to mix it to your requirements often costing less than what the average garden centre would.0 -
once you've put the seed down you need to water it well every day,
every other day is not enough0 -

I've had very good results with this whenever I've reseeded or had to do a patch due to changing garden layout. very hard wearing, quick growing, feels nice.0 -
Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.
I’ve moved your thread from the ‘In my home’ board to the ‘Greenfingered’ board, where it is better suited.
