European Breakdown Cover

Options
Just been looking for breakdown cover for my forthcoming trip to France. I notice that all the quotes I've received excludes cover for an initial period ranging from the first 24 hours up to as high as the first 72 hours. Anyone knows why?

To stop people only signing up after they've broken down, then saying "Oh, what a remarkable coincidence of timing" when they phone for recovery.

Many UK-only products are the same.
  • Thanks - Makes sense! What's to stop me from saying I'm travelling the day before I actually leave, however, to get round this?!

Or just buying the cover ahead of when you leave?

Have you misunderstood? I read it that the cover kicks in 24-72 hours after you buy it, not after the day you start travelling.

E.g. You go on holiday on 1st August. You buy the insurance on the 25th July and they won't allow claims until the 28th which doesn't affect you.
