Couple applying for UC with kids

If a couple on UC both have to attend by weekly interviews while looking for work, then what happens once the husband has found fulltime work?

does the wife still have to attend bi weekly interviews if she has kids to look after?
The thing about chaos is, it's fair.

That will depend on whether the wife is still required to look for work. If the husband earns enough to meet the earnings expectation for both then wife will have no work search requirement. Number of hours work search required of wife (if applicable) will depend on age of children and should be adjusted to reflect need to, for example, take children to or from school etc. If there is an ongoing requirement then attendance at appointments with work coach is likely.

In theory, under UC, appointments should be less often than fortnightly but I understand at many JobCentres this is what happens.

If you are in intensive regime it's either weekly or fortnightly attendance.

If your household earns over the CET then you will fall into a different regime and won't have to attend regular appointments.

How can you find out what the CET is?

By default 35 hours x NMW per person. May be reduced to reflect individual circumstances (such as child care responsibilities).

    Per person?

How can a couple with kids both be working 35hrs and pick up the kids from school ect?
  • "May be reduced to reflect each individual circumstances"

If the husband is working 40hrs NMW, and with long commute each way, how is the wife supossed to fit in that many hours while taking three kids to different schools nd then going and picking them all up again mon to Friday?

Would this be able to reduce to relent individual circumstances?
  • If youngest child is 4yrs old, and two other kids a little older, would the wife still need to be earning 35hrs NMW if the husband is working full time?
  • "If you are a couple and earning less than your joint earnings threshold but more than £541 per month, you will be subject to all work-related requirements, except for looking for work. You will still have to be ready to take up more work, to do the things your job coach asks you to and to go to work-focused interviews."

    That's what childcare is for.
