Replacement Boiler

We currently have a Vaillant Combi boiler running 9 radiators. I think it is about 18 years old.
It works fine, and we have never had a minutes problem with it.
We do not have a room thermostat just the one built into the boiler, and the timer is a the one where you move little coloured blocks to set on & off times. We can therefore only set 2 times per day.
Would you recommend:
a) Replace the boiler with a more efficient one, and replace all the controls.
b) Just replace the controls.
If you recommend boiler, what sort of cost should I expect to supply & fit? - I am in West Yorkshire.
The one doubt in my mind is that as I have said this boiler has been totally trouble free, and I remember at my last house I was forever having the combi boiler repaired.
Thanks

We had a combi boiler installed last year, replacing a rather old boiler. My OH did a bit of research into it before he was happy with the suggested boiler. The old boiler would only have been 65% efficient at it's best, the new one is somewhere up in the high 80% I think.
We've been tracking our usage on the electric companies graphs and it looks like we are going to use at least one third less electric this first year.
Ours is a Worcester 30CDi, running one towel rail, 4 radiators in a 2 bed house. When we had the work done we had new radiators installed too, and the positions of them moved, so some of our costs were due to those but £3000 covered it.
We can set the boiler to 3 times a day, and could have different times on different days. We can override to boost it, or make it jump to start the next time range early. It's been very easy to use, and our house is a lot more pleasant. Plus we get a decent bathfull of hot water now, and we didn't on the old boiler.
My OH did price comparisons with offers being made on ebay if that helps your research.0 -
Good morning: Install a room stat and themostatic rad valves, have the boiler serviced annually by a CORGI and put aside money each month in the event of boiler breakdown in the future. No need to bin a fully functioning system...reduced gas consumption in the medium term will not offset the cost of a new boiler.
