O/S Daily Friday 19 July 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dry bright start to the day here, but rain is forecast at some point, we'll see. Very warm still.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered and dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, mash, carrots, cauli in cheese sauce and peas - not sure what we'll be eating tonight something quite quick.
Yesterday I got the ironing done, and did the couple of jobs I wanted. Today I'll be heading to the SM first thing. Then doing any other jobs I can find at my own pace.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Its a bit overcast here this morning and we are due rain with some thunder storms all night tonight and tomorrow morning.
Off to work for me and Fridays are my hardest day so there is a gin in the fridge waiting for me already/
I spoke to Nels last night on FB she is really well but very very busy at work and with her mum atm, she said to tell you that Bananagate is still very much in action !! She asked me to give her best wishes for all the people that care about her on here and that she will be back as soon as she can xx
Not sure about dinner tonight it will either be chicken or salmon will go and look on the freezer after this.
Did a wash last night and thats hanging in the conservatory on the airer and will hopefully dry.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning folks and thanks nmlc for the new Daily. Still no rain here but at last it is forecast for today - with a vengeance! Thunder and heavy rain.
I am a day in front of myself here! As I didn't have the girlies to feed and sleep last night I thought, after lunch, I would make a head start on the Friday Tidy. I ended up doing it all so this week it was a Thursday Tidy!
This morning I plan on the bus ride to Ilkley for M & S Food, to do a re-stock of their fish and salad stuff. Must remember to put my brolly in my bag or I will be a soggy TA if the forecast is right.
Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) as always for all in need, plus of course our absent friends. We miss you. Take care all xx
Thanks for the update on NELSKI RR. I'm glad she is ok and just too busy with RL to post."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone.
Another bright start to the day. Unusually I had a disturbed night, my knee was really sore and I just couldn't get comfortable at all. I'll phone my GP this morning to get a telephone appointment. In the past I've been taking Naproxen but stopped it ages ago as the side effects worried me.
I'll be going out to visit a friend later, no idea when.
Thanks for news of Nelski RR, she sounds snowed under!
Right, must check on DM. Happy Friday to all.0 -
Morning everyone,
It's been a week since I've logged on. Mostly due to my extended trip back home which was lovely. Great to see everyone and had a wonderful time in the glorious weather. Was back to work on Wednesday but had the doctors first, turns out I'm low in folic acid which may cause the dizziness. Then yesterday I had to drive to Oxford and back for a meeting, which went well. Then this morning I had another doctors appointment to discuss next steps on the dizziness and I've to get a 24hr heart monitor to track what it goes through on a daily basis.
So, that's been me in a nutshell. I'm not entirely sure what I've spent the last 7 days but I am concious that I have been spending (taxis, drinks, food, car parking etc). So I need to control and review that.
Tonight I've a local boxing night to attend which has been put on by my ex-colleague. It seems like a trap to spend so I'll watch what I'm doing. Plus tomorrow, I've got a 2nd date, which I know will cost, so all the more reason to calm down.
Gers - What sort of knee pain have you got? Do you know the cause?0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
We've had a couple of showers but so far the forecast heavy rain hasn't arrived. I am relieved as my little grandson was camping out at school last night and I didn't want him and his classmates to get soaked.
I was in bed yesterday at 8.30 as I was just so so fed up and just wanted the day to be over. I woke up in a better frame of mind so hopefully today will go well. I even turned the nurse away yesterday as I couldn't bear the thought of someone touching my legs. I hope they will come back on Monday though.
My grand daughter came and knocked on the door at 7.30 this morning as my daughter and son in law were at work. She had some breakfast and a play on her tablet before school started. They break up on Wednesday so I think we shall be seeing a lot more of them.
My kids are all still fast asleep. I don't expect to see any of them before lunch time to be honest. I am a bit fed up of it but I can't compare to my own life as I was a teenage mum at 17 so definitely didn't get any lie ins. Phoebe has a couple of days off work so I don't mind her sleeping in as she works really hard and gets up at 5 most mornings but Lilly is making no effort to get a job and she is going to have a rude awakening after this month as I won't be able to give her any allowance.
Enough of my moans, I need to take a deep breath and be grateful for what I have. It's going to be a quiet day I think, Steve is on a half day so I will see him at lunchtime which will be nice as I haven't seen much of him for the last day or so. I will make another stir fry for lunch I think as that is quick and healthy.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning folks. Heavy rain here. I am gloomily watching the rain dfip off the scaffolding. The roofer hopes to make a start tomottow so we shall see.
Gers sorry to hear you have painful knees. Hope the gp can suggest something. Specky hang in there with the tests and enjoy your second date.TA woo hoo for getting a head start on the Friday tidy! Glad Nelski is ok.
Not a lot planned. DH is taking DD shopping later. I will put some stewing steak in the slow cooker for a pie for dinner.
Well have a good day folks. Hugs and spoons all round.

Good morning and a soggy day here -will do the gardens some good.
I need to do a Friday Tidy but my motivation is not what it might be. So I'll probably do short bursts.
My dentist visit was horrible because I've got toothache from an infection in an upper front tooth, the crown needs to be removed and root canal work, plus another 3 on the top are at risk and will also need new crowns. Apart from this all being nasty it is going to cost megabucks. I've been with the same dentAl practice for over 30 years and don't want to change but they are entirely private and quite expensive. But the alternative is dentures which I don't want (other than implants which are out of the question financially) Then I managed to forget to bring the antibiotics home but they have posted them.
Nothing much else going on here, good to know Nelski is ok.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Speky - my knee is arthritic, I have bone on bone. For years the pain has been managable and paracetamol would help at night - Naproxen is not good. I phoned the GP and waiting for the telephone call this morning.
Dumpling - I'm sorry to hear that you're not too good.
AOD - 'ouch' for your mouth and for your purse. I'm having two crowns replaced so can feel the financial pain! The x-rays show perfectly healthy posts so it's just a quick off with the old and on with the new once the post impressions have been done. The root canal treatment was about 30 years ago, I hated it.0 -
Oh dear, hugs for those with tooth woes and Gers, I hope the GP has a solution for you. Speky, hopefully the folic acid will sort you out. Dumpling, I'm sorry you're having a hard time.
Laura and Brian are dropping off Ziggy on their way to a spa, Laura had her last exams yesterday so I hope she has a relaxing couple of days.
Not a lot else going on here so I'll go before I bore the socks off you.0 -
Afternoon all
Thanks RedRuby for the info on Nelski, glad she's ok.
We've had rain and lots of it, the drains weren't coping very well but now it's stopped and it's humid again. Oh well at least the gardens have had a good drink.
I've been to the dentist this morning but only for a clean and polish. Before coming home I went into the local Tes*o for some shopping and spent more than I wanted. I even took a list but still got side tracked, so I'm going to blame Mr Fix It and in future I shall have to leave him tied up outside the shop :rotfl: Never mind it's all food and none of it will be wasted, however my freezer has filled up again and I wanted to defrost it tomorrow .
I may do some more ironing later, it's only the holiday stuff and we won't be needing it til Sept..... well that's my excuse for not getting it done already and I'm sticking to it :rotfl:.
Gers I hope the GP can get you some relief with your knee.
Nmlc thanks for the start off today.
AOD ouch to the purse on that ! I hope you can be pain free asap. Gentle hugs coming your way.
Specky I hope your health problems can be resolved pronto.
Dumpling sending you a special hug and I hope you feel better soon.
Gintot I hope the roofer can start tomorrow and the rain holds off til the job is finished.
TA I could do with a Friday tidy if you're at a loose end
Thinking of those MIA, poorly or struggling at present.
Take care and hugs to all
