Named driver has cancelled policy

Hi all,
I am a new driver and need to insure my car.
I want to get my partner insured on it also for occasional use. He will be added as a named driver... but, he has had a cancelled policy before, about 4 years ago. (Non-payment due to personal circumstances)
Will this effect how much my insurance will be?
I wonder if they will just ask me to pay it upfront... which I don't mind doing....
Any one had this before?

You will need to find out exactly when your partner's policy was cancelled.
The cost to have him on your policy may be eye watering due to it.
My brother was having to pay over 4k for a few years, it's only recently dropped down to over 1k, his was about 6 years ago now; he was in his 40's at the time.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
Thanks for your reply.
4K!? Oh my. Annoyingly it says if its over 5 years, you dont need to tick yes. His was 4 years ago
I really pray that realise it was non payment and therefore make me cough up it in full meaning no risk of that again!!0 -
Also....was your brother the one who had his policy cancelled? As i feel that perhaps with an additional driver, it may differ.0

Yes, on some. Such as Direct Line.
Of course not all0 -

Yeah. I wish his policy was cancelled 5+ years ago rather than 4!!0

It was my brother.
The risk is the same whether policyholder or named driver. Yes, you may need to pay it in full, but you will still be facing a higher premium.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -

They would need to have not had insurance or / and not be named on an insurance policy for over 5 years for that data to disappear from there. All your base are belong to us.0
