Argos; Refund for headphones?

Bought new headphones for my son's console online order (click and collect)

Son has tried them for an hour and is not happy with the sound quality. He wants to return them.

Do I have any grounds to.return them?

On the Argos website it says they will accept at return if the item is still sealed (it's been open and tested).
Can I cancel within 14 days as its an online order?
I know that you are only allowed to inspect them as much as you would be able to do in the shop, but you can't tell if they are any good until you plug them in?

I'm resigned to it being a no but I thought I'd ask.

Did you pay online and merely collect it in store? If yes then the Consumer Contracts Regs apply. You can return them, but Argos can reduce the value of any refund based on if/how they've been devalued by your handling.

Unless they don't meet their specifications? If that were the case you could return them as not conforming to contract. However (if you wanted a refund) you may be required to prove that they don't conform (as it is within the first 30 days). After 30 days and up to 6 months the burden of proof would lie with Argos.

Or they're not of satisfactory quality? Depends what the OP means by "not happy with the sound quality" i.e. are they objectively a load of rubbish, or within the parameters you might expect for whatever they cost?
