Health rose bush - leaves going yellow?

Hi All,

Please could anyone confirm why a newly planted rose bush might have started turning yellow?

I planted 2 rose bushes in good quality compost (J Arthur Bowers multi-purpose compost with 4-6 wk feed) about 3 weeks ago...its healthy and has lots of buds but have noticed the lower level leaves are turning yellow?

Any guesses what could be the cause or how to stop it?

Many thanks for any help

Are they in pots or in the ground? If in pots they should be planted on John Innes no 3 compost.

Feed twice a year with a specialist rose fertiliser

Probably just transplanting shock from nice cosy nursery to real life
Lower leaves not really a problem. Are you watering well in this hot weather?

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply.....Yes, they are in a pot but a very big one,so I know its not lack of soil for the roots....just found it really strange that its only the lower level leaves...all the leaves at the top of the rose bushes are deep green and very healthy.

thank you again....will look into a "rose fertiliser"

    Hi Farway,

Thanks for your reply....Yes, watering well....infact, maybe too well....I wasnt sure if that was the issue. Can you "over" water rose bushes?

I didnt think of that.....yes, they did come from a cosy nursery, so maybe it is just getting use to the new surroundings. Just couldnt work out why the top 2/3 of the rose bushes were healthy but all the leaves on the lower levels were going yellow and falling off.....

thanks again for the replies, good to know its nothing to worry about!;)
