Hello!

I'm one of the lucky ones who managed to get the Huxton Hotel for £1 in december and i want to dine the mrs at a top restraunt....

I have been informed about the - cirterion picadilly but want to know what top places there are to dine.

I'm not fussed about the price its a special occasion and i want to treat my mrs plus the saving on the hotel!!!!

  • You could check Out Gaucho Grill which is about 5 mins from the Picadilly Circus Tube Station. The ambience and food is awsum. Check out their site for the menu.
  • I will second Goucho. I have not eaten at their west end place but have eaten many times at their city venue and their Manchester place and as Pappuyogy says, they really know what they are doing. Of course you could argue that you can go to Gauchos elsewhere in the UK so why use your 1 night in London.

Of course it depends on what you are looking for.

If you want traditional english fare then it can only be Simpsons on the Strand for the finest roast beef dinner money can buy (but the price is not too expensive).
  • if you're looking for a good deal, how about this?

It's a 3 course meal in a restaurant at a 4* mayfair hotel, for only 9.99 pounds. I've been there and it'a very nice gd ambience and staff, very good value for the price you pay.

  • You could try Dans Le Noir, havent been there but most of my friends and colleagues who been there rate it high. http://www.danslenoir.com/london. It's a blacked out restaurant where blind staff serve you food. It is definitely a unique experience, but considering you are going with wife, you might loose the romantic part of the dinner.
  • this is great for ambience, but it's a bit out of the way for the Hoxton Hotel...

If you're prepared to make the short trek across town to Victoria, there is Santini. an italian place popular with celebs. Its nice and not even majorly expensive. Definitly worth a look.

Skylon on the South Bank within the Royal Festival Hall is fantastic. Great food, atmosphere and stunning Thames views - all lit up for Christmas! Not extortionate either - I went there for a 40th celebration recently and it was really fitting for the occasion. Check out their website for sample menus and details http://www.skylonrestaurant.co.uk/ Whatever you do have a great time!!

Also check out gordon ramsay, they have some brilliantly priced set lunch/ pre theatre menus around the 20 quid mark, so you could go there the next day :D for a bit of extra top food!

Shame about Gary Rhodes. I went to Dolphin Square when he had one there and it was fabulous. The bread and butter pudding is everything it's made out to be.

My H's best friend is General Manager of the Gaucho in Piccadilly :o It's so entirely plush, lots of black everywhere, huge chandeliers. Very opulent and grand indeed. You have to have the marinaded, spiral cut steak if you go, it's absolutely divine. Some of the best steak ever.

The Blue Elephant that was recommended as well is a stunning destination. They have a stream running through it and bridges to walk over. There's foliage everywhere, dim lighting, very romantic! I love Thai food - make sure you have the Royal Banquet if they still do it! Fulham Broadway is over the other side of town though.

La Pont de La Tour is a favourite of H and I - it's right on the river near Tower Bridge, so the right side of town for you. You can enjoy a bottle of champagne and see if the bridge comes up to let the boats through. It was Conran - they've changed the group name now. If you want prime London location, then this has it! http://www.conran-restaurants.co.uk/restaurants/restaurants/lepont/

Gordon Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road is the absolute place to dine - it beats everywhere I have ever been hands down for cuisine and for being made to feel special but you have to book two months in advance :o Do it next time!

Have a look at toptable.co.uk to see if there are any offers on their fine dining restaurants.

EDIT: Pre theatre is cool, but you won't get the full benefit of the restaurant really. The best kind of meal if you are going to the theatre in the evening would be a very long, leisurely lunch instead and a walk. I'd pick La Pont de La Tour for that, then you can walk along the river after. They used to do cheaper lunch specials too.
