Moving home energy contract

I've recently moved into my second home. I am currently in the process of trying to get hold of the property's current supplier, Avro, to set up a direct debit with them.

My main question is though. If the previous owners of the property had a fixed term contract with them, which I'm still to find out when/if Avro finally get back to me. Would I be fixed into that contract until it comes to an end or am I able to switch freely without any form of exit fees due to being a new owner of the property?

You will be on a "Deemed" contract with the current supplier/s. That will be their most expensive tariff.
Once signed up with them, you can do a comparison and switch to the best value suppliers for you.
It usually takes at least 3 weeks to switch.

You do not take over the contract of the previous occupier - that ends when they give their final reading.

Thats' what will have happened when you moved out of your previous property - you did give final readings didn't you ?

Yes that was all sorted. Had smart meter at my old property which made the final reading a lot easier
