Hammonds fitted wardrobes issue

Around a month ago we had 2 fitted wardrobes put in by Hammonds. Both of them were supposed to have a mirror inside but the mirror was not given to the fitter and the rest of job completed. We followed up several times with Hammonds to resolve but are still awaiting any outcome. They are giving us conflicting messages saying mirrors were on drawings they saying weren’t on the actual order.

Over the phone they are reassuring it will be resolved but do not respond in writing to any complaints through their website so there is no thread of communication.

10% of the cost is paid after completion of fitting so currently this is being withheld as they have not completed the job. The 10% accounts to a lot more than the mirrors would be worth so you would think its in their interests to help.

I’m concerned our credit rating will suffer if we withold payment too long. Can anyone advise?

Comments

  • Contact the finance company and tell them you are not satisfied with the job as they have not adhered to the contract and you are claiming under Section 75. They will withhold payment to Hammonds, who will then suddenly do everything to resolve.

This is what happened with us. Hammonds only really care until you give them the business. Awful customer service.

OP doesnt actually say this is on finance.

Write to Hammonds by recorded delivery and let them know that you are giving them 15 days to respond and resolve the issue.

If you have made any part of your payment by credit card or if it is indeed on finance, then contact them asking for a refund or to let them know you will be withholding payment.

OP states that they have to pay 10% on completion so it must be on finance, otherwise full amount would have been paid.

Section 75 applies in this case.
