Like I said in my last post, I felt fairly confident it was a scam and reasoned that if it was legitimate then there'd have been some follow up. There never was.

Arn't you glad that you did not share the scam with your mothers insurers
I suppose the posters who absurdly advised you to tell them would also advise me to tell my insurers each time the nice man from Bangalore rings me up to discuss the accident that I have supposedly been in.

    Very glad!
It was a few weeks of sleepless nights wondering if I'd possibly twanged anyone and not noticed, but then I reasoned if that was the case they'd have included the reg number - or it would have been addressed to my mum as the owner of the car, not me.

I do wish there was someone I could report this to, as the company it came from is supposedly a legitimate one (according to previous posters on this thread), but it seemed my best defence was just to ignore it.

Did DVLA ever give you anything from your GDPR request? (Per your post from July 2019).

Unfortunately not - they can only look up car registrations on their system - not individuals.

They couldn't confirm that I'm not attached to any car without me giving them a list of registrations (which would have been pointless, given I didn't know which car this letter was about, it could well have been a typo on some car unrelated to me). They also couldn't confirm if they hold any information on me at all, or if they had given this out to a third party.

I reported them to the Information Commissioners Office in the end, as their systems mean they can't comply with my rights under GDPR. Nothing has come of that yet - and I suspect nothing ever will as it's an issue with how their system operates that will only come to light in very specific situations like this.
