We are currently looking to replace the Baniisters along the stairs and at the Landing at our home. The job is to include removing current planks (there are no spindles and just a plank running between the handrail and base), sanding and decorating the handrail, newel posts, fixing new spindles, painting and finish,

I have got quotes from 3 different carpenters with the cheapest one at £600 (based in SW London).. He said this will be a 1 1/2 days worth of job from start to finish and is willing to do on a weekend which suits me. All materials will be supplied by him. We have only choosen the style and colours for the spindles and the final colour for handrail, newel posts etc.

Is the price about right?

Too cheap TBH. If he is doing at a weekend its a private job. Probably ask for cash with no comebacks.

Oh thought that was slightly on the higher side because its a straight forward job (meaning no new newel posts etc. and just has to ensure the spindles are cut to right sizes) but good to know its cheap.

As for weekends - we wanted weekends as we are not able to take off from work for the next few weeks. He was ok with both weekday and weekend jobs.
