Because I would have needed proof of address and the only proof of address that I could provide would have been a Bank Statement from my Bank and I had two of them already stolen in the space of a couple of weeks when I was trying to get the problem sorted out

All the Utility bills are in my landlords name

And it would not be safe for a postal confirmation for a PO Box or redirection sent to my address

On the subject of redirection could I have my mail sent to a friends house where I could collect it

you wont have a choice. A postal confirmation is sent for redirections for security purposes.
You will need to provide proof of address for both a PO box & redirection.
you can get bank statements printed in branch.
difference is now you are going to be paying for it when you could have had a free mail collect up and running.

AFAIK When you apply online for a PO Box or redirection you do not have to provide proof of address when you pay for the service your debit card does that for you provided that your address and the address your debit card is billed to is the same

    Is that not reason enough?
From experience mail collect was often a pain in the !!!, with problem customers and often questionable reasons for the mail collect.
  • Word of warning, redirection means your mail is received at the new address a couple or more days later than it would if sent directly. I found I was missing things as I got the mail too late to respond when I moved house.
